In order to keep the cost of tuition low enough for the malawian and missionary community to afford we try to find qualified, volunteer, missionary teachers. Each teacher is asked to raise their own support from churches or individuals. A cost worksheet can be obtained from the stateside home office or our west coast recruiter Chuck Price. ABC Christian academy provides housing in the form of a duplex, we try to give each teacher their own room but this is not always possible. Most duplex's have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. They are furnished with the bare necessities such as beds, living room furniture, stove, fridge and two duplex's (one complex) share a washer and dryer. Most duplex's also have kitchen utensils and some cook ware. Teachers need to bring their own linens in the form of sheets, towels, bed pad, pillow etc. The academy also has 3 vehicles that are available for use by missionary teachers at the academy. Teachers pay a fee of $75 for monthly use. If vehicles are taken out of the Lilongwe city a charge is made per kilometer of use for the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle. Teachers are also respsonsible for the following charges -- electricty, security, internet (wireless and very good for Africa), maintenance, appliance use and water use in the duplex. Charges run about $125 per month. Phone charges are separate and divided among roomates. Most teachers also have a cell phone which they can purchase when they arrive. Cell phones are not charged for incoming calls - helpful for overseas family calls.
Teachers need to be dedicated Christians with a genuine love for children and a heart for missions overseas.
