239 - Pastoral Training - 2 hours:
Pastoral Training deals with the practical work of
a pastor or any church leader who will be working with a pastor.
It deals with a church leaderÍs relationship to his family,
community, church, and fellow pastors. Some time will be given to
studying pastoral administration such as planning services, church
organization, church finances, and church training programs. The
student will learn how to plan and conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms,
the Lord's Supper, and how to plant and organize a new church.
316 - Sermon Preparation I - 2 hours:
The course begins with the scriptural mandate for
preaching along with its description. The qualifications and preparation
of the preacher are considered as well as the preparation of the
sermon. The latter includes collecting, organizing, and presenting
appropriate sermon material.
317 - Sermon Preparation II - 2 hours:
A continuation of Sermon Preparation I. This deals
with sources and use of illustrations, application and has to unite
introductions and conclusions. The course lets the students have
their first experience writing a sermon and preaching it to their
classmates. Prerequisite: Sermon Preparation 316.
407 - Homiletics I - 3 hours:
Instruction and exercises aimed to help in the perfection
of delivering a sermon so that it is listenable and useful to the
listener moving him to action.
408 - Homiletics II - 3 hours:
While Homiletics I develop preaching skills in general,
Homiletics II will deal with expository preaching in particular.
The object of the course is to encourage and develop expository
preaching that is exciting - that brings the Scriptures alive. Prerequisite:
Homiletics 407.
