135 - Music Theory - 1 hour:
This course will introduce the student to the basic
structure of music - staff, clefs, musical alphabet, note values,
time meter, key signatures and basic chords.
136 - Music Appreciation - 1 hour:
This course will endeavor to develop a broader music
appreciation with introduction of vocal, instrumental, classical
and popular music. Time will also be spent on Chrsitian music and
its use in the church.
240 - Choir - 1 hour:
The purpose of the choir will be to give students
the opportunity to express their love for the Lord Jesus Christ
through song. There will be exposure to a variety of Christian music;
Gospel songs, Hymns, contemporary and folk music. A special program
will be prepared each semester for public presentation.
454 - Basic Band Techniques - 2 hours:
The purpose of this course is to teach students how
to read music and prepare to perform in a band. Each student is
provided with a musical band instrument and instructed how to assemble,
care for and play the instrument, and how to read music. At first
students will be grouped into sections: Woodwind, brass, or percussion.
Each section will usually be taught separately. Later, all groups
will be combined to rehearse together as a band.
